Crestview is a city in Okaloosa County, Florida and serves as the county seat. The United States Census Bureau’s of 2010 estimated the city had a population of 20,987. However today the population is closer to 23,000. In addition Crestview is one of Florida’s fastest growing cities with new residential developments, shopping, and with land area to grow. Also it has recently become the largest city in Okaloosa County.
Crestview is one of the highest points in the state with an elevation of 235 feet above sea level. It receives about 65 inches of rainfall yearly, the second-most of any city in Florida, next to Fort Walton Beach with 69 inches. The city was once known as “the icebox of Florida” due to it having the coldest winters in the state. But today it goes by a more popular nickname, the “Hub City” of Northwest Florida.
As part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure, Crestview experienced population growth as the U.S. Army’s 7th Special Forces Group relocated from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. As a result a new Army facility was built on Duke Field, approximately six miles to the south. So today many people from the US Army and Air Force stationed at Duke Field and Eglin Air Force Base call Crestview home and you can too.
